NET Bible has an interesting translation of this verse, “The first to state his case seems right, until his opponent begins to cross-examine him.
NLT also has an interesting translation (I only like the 2nd edition): “The first to speak in court sounds right— until the cross-examination begins.”
David, I should have used the NET Bible rendering because it captures the sense that I wanted to convey. Thanks for sharing it.
